HOUSTON, Sept. 10
– ExxonMobil Production Co. drilled and cased the surface hole to 4,875 ft at the company’s second well at Point Thomson gas-condensate field on the Alaska North Slope 60 miles east of Prudhoe Bay.

The first two wells are to be completed to their final depths by the end of 2010.

More than 80 bargeloads of equipment and material have been delivered to the site since mid-July 2009. The project is to become the world’s highest-pressure gas cycling operation.

Point Thomson owners committed $120 million to drilling and development in 2008, and investments of $250 million are expected in 2009. Other major Point Thomson owners participating in the present work include BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. and ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc.
