PORT OF SPAIN, Oct. 14 -- EOG Resources Inc. has embarked upon a five-well, $75 million exploration and development program that it hopes will identify additional gas reserves off Trinidad's east coast.
The wells are expected to be drilled back-to-back using the Santa Fe Atlantic rig, which has been working in Trinidad waters for the last 4 years, mainly for BP Trinidad & Tobago LLC.
EOG's drilling program includes spudding the first wells on both Modified U Block, in which EOG is the operator and holds a 55% share, and Lower Reverse L Block, in which EOG holds100%.
According to EOG (Trinidad) Managing Director Lindell Looger, extensive 3D seismic has shown promising locations on Modified U Block. The first well on Lower Reverse L is being drilled on a block that extends down the maritime boundary line with Venezuela. It is near the Deltana Platform area in which significant cross-border hydrocarbons have been identified.
However officials from both Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Energy and EOG say they don't think any find on Lower Reverse L will extend into Venezuelan waters.
The first well on Lower Reverse L has been tentatively named Turnstone 1. Developmental wells also will be drilled on EOG's SECC Block as it attempts to bring on stream its Parula well that discovered almost 500 bcf of natural gas.
EOG has reserves of 2.3 tcf of gas in Trinidad and Tobago.
