France's TotalFinaElf SA announced Wednesday that it has another oil discovery on Angola's deep offshore Block 14.

Drilled in 1,340 ft of water, the Lobito-1x well flowed at a rate of 10,200 b/d of 35˚-gravity crude.

TotalFinaElf holds a 20% interest in the block. Its partners are Angola's state oil company, Sonangol, 20%; Chevron Corp. subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd., 31%; Agip Angola Exploration BV, 20%; and Petrogal, 9%.

The discovery field is close to four other discoveries on Block 14: Kuito, Landana, Benguela, and Belize. Kuito field, placed on flow in late 1999, produces 70,000 b/d. TotalFinaElf said studies to develop the other fields are underway.
