HOUSTON, Apr. 19 -- Corpus Christi LNG LP, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cheniere Energy Co. Inc., Houston, received Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval Apr. 13 to construct a 2.6 bcfd-equivalent LNG receiving terminal near Corpus Christi, Tex.

The facility also will have two docks capable of handling LNG carriers as large as 250,000 cu m and three storage tanks with an aggregate LNG storage capacity of 10.1 bcf of natural gas equivalent.

Cheniere plans to begin construction later this year and to commence commercial operations in late 2008.

The project is the third to be approved of four applications Cheniere Energy has submitted to FERC for LNG receiving terminals on the US Gulf Coast, including the 2.6 bcfd-equivalent LNG regasification terminal in Cameron Parish, La., currently under construction by Sabine Pass LNG LP, and a 26-mile pipeline by Cheniere Sabine Pass Pipeline Co. connecting the terminal to an existing gas pipeline (OGJ Online, Apr. 12, 2005).
