HIBERNIA CONTRACTS TO BE LET

Major contracts for development of Hibernia oil field off Newfoundland are to be let this month. Hibernia Management & Development Ltd. will award contracts for one of five topside modules. Bids have been submitted by Trinity Bay Offshore Contractors, PLC Aker Stordsteen Becker, and Topsides Contractors of Newfoundland. Major contracts for development of Hibernia oil field off Newfoundland are to be let this month.

Hibernia Management & Development Ltd. will award contracts for one of five topside modules. Bids have been submitted by Trinity Bay Offshore Contractors, PLC Aker Stordsteen Becker, and Topsides Contractors of Newfoundland.

Hibernia Management expects to award more work this year, including contracts for construction of concrete forms for platforms. Platform construction is to begin in spring 1992.

Mobil Oil Canada Ltd. is lead partner in a group that will develop the 500 million bbl field on the Grand Banks, 196 miles southeast of St. John's, Newf.

Elsewhere on the Grand Banks, BP Canada Ltd. abandoned a wildcat 6 miles northwest of Hibernia field. The Thorvald P-24 wildcat went to 12,418 feet as a tight hole.

BP Canada held a 31% interest in the well.

Parent British Petroleum had a 24% interest, Chevron Resources Canada Ltd. 25%, and Texaco Exploration Canada Ltd. 20%.

Mobil Canada and Amoco Canada Ltd. are partners in a well to be drilled soon in the same area.
