CHEVRON AWARDS N. SEA ALBA JACKET CONTRACT
Chevron U.K. Ltd. has let a 60 million ($103.8 million) contract to Highlands Fabricators, Nigg, Scotland, to build a 17,000 metric ton jacket for the Alba Northern platform to be installed in the U.K. North Sea in 1993.
The eight legged structure will stand in 520 ft of water and support a 20,200 metric ton topsides with slots for 24 wells.
Alba, in Block 16/26, holds about 400 million bbl of recoverable reserves. Production will start in 1993 and build to a peak of 60,000-70,000 b/d.
NOVEL FEATURES
Chevron said a number of novel features are included in the jacket design.
A large area of the jacket just below the water line will be covered in copper nickel antifouling cladding to reduce marine growth and make maintenance easier.
Chevron also will use higher strength steel plate to reduce weight and cost.
The jacket, scheduled for installation in mid-1993 over a predrilled template, will stand on very large steel mud mats to mitigate the effect of the soft seabed.
Chevron's partners in Alba are Amerada Hess Ltd., Conoco Petroleum (Alba) Ltd., Fina Petroleum Development Ltd., Oryx U.K. Energy Co., Santa Fe Exploration (U.K.) Ltd., and Unilon Oil Explorations Ltd./Baytrust Oil Explorations Ltd.
