CANADIANS SEEK TO SHIP MORE GAS TO U.S.

Canada's National Energy Board has scheduled a hearing on applications to ship another 1.251 tcf of gas to the U.S. Shipments under the requested export licenses generally would begin late this year and last to the early 2000s as part of the Canadian industry's drive to step up gas shipments to U.S. customers (OGJ, May 20, p. 19). Canada's National Energy Board has scheduled a hearing on applications to ship another 1.251 tcf of gas to the U.S.

Shipments under the requested export licenses generally would begin late this year and last to the early 2000s as part of the Canadian industry's drive to step up gas shipments to U.S. customers (OGJ, May 20, p. 19).

The hearing will start June 25 in Calgary.

Seeking the licenses are Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd., North Canadian Marketing Inc./East Georgia Cogeneration (Vermont) LP (EGC), Unigas Corp., Amoco Canada Petroleum Co. Ltd., Mobil Oil Canada Ltd., ProGas Ltd., Shell Canada Ltd., and Western Gas Marketing Limited (WGML).

Here are the proposed exporters, volume, and buyers:

  • Canadian Oxy--27.4 bcf to Northern States Power Co. (NSPW), Nov. 1, 1992-Oct. 31, 2002. NSPW is a local distribution company serving western Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

  • North Canadian Marketing/EGC--50 bcf, Nov. 1, 1992-Oct. 31, 2012. The gas will be used by EGC in a cogeneration plant to be built at East Georgia, Vt.

  • Unigas--365 bcf to Northern Natural Gas Co., a division of Enron Corp., Nov. 1, 1991-Oct. 31, 2001. Northern Natural serves mainly local distributors in Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

  • Amoco--54.8 bcf to NSPW, Nov. 1, 1992-Oct. 31, 2002.

  • Mobil--73 bcf to Northern Natural, date of approval to Oct. 31, 2000.

  • Progas--Two licenses. One for 66 bcf to Lockport Energy Associates LP, Nov. 1, 1992-Oct. 31, 2007. The gas will be used by Lockport at a cogeneration plant to be built at Lockport, N.Y. The second for 27.4 bcf to NSPW, Nov. 1, 1992-Oct. 31, 2001.

  • Shell--Two licenses. One for 112.3 bcf to Salmon Resources Ltd. for resale to Midwest Gas, a division of Iowa Public Service Co. Midwest serves Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska. The second for 36 bcf to Salmon Resources for resale to Enron Gas Marketing Inc. The gas will be used in the Midwest. Both Nov. 1, 1991-Oct. 31, 2006.

  • WGML--Three licenses. One for 47.5 bcf, Nov. 1, 1991-Oct. 31, 2001, from Emerson, Man. The second for 30 bcf, Nov. 1, 1991 -Mar. 31, 1996, from Emerson. The third for 25 bcf, Nov. 1, 1991 Oct. 31, 2001, from Monchy, Sask. All sales to Northern Natural.

  • WGML--Two licenses. One for 10 bcf to Northern Minnesota Utilities (NMU), Nov. 1, 1991-May 1, 2001. NMU is a local distribution company serving 46 communities in northern Minnesota. The second for 176 bcf to Vermont Gas Systems Inc., Nov. 1, 1991-Oct. 31, 2006. Vermont Gas is a transmission and distribution company serving customers in Northwest Vermont.

  • WGML--Acting as NMU's agent, for 151 bcf to NMU, Nov. 1, 1991-Oct. 31, 2002. The gas will be exported at Sprague, Man., and some will move through Rainy River, Ont., then delivered to Fort Frances, Ont., for reexport. The gas will be delivered to customers in western Minnesota and to Boise Cascade at International Falls, Minn.
