CANOXY TESTS TWO OIL STRIKES IN YEMEN
Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, has disclosed completion of lengthy production tests of the 2 Camaal and 3X Camaal oil discoveries on its 6.8 million acre Masila block in eastern Yemen.
A CanOxy unit and partners tested three intervals in the Cretaceous Qishn in 2 Camaal, resulting in stabilized pump rates of 3,630, 4,165 and 4,875 b/d of oil for a total of 12,670 b/d.
The 3X Camaal, which also tapped three intervals, yielded stabilized pump rates of 1,835, 4,475 and 4,485 b/d for a total of 10,795 b/d.
Gravity range was 29.5-32.7.
In addition, 2 Sunah, a step out on the Sunah structure, has cut 10 m of pay in the Qishn. Production tests are due at 2 Sunah as well as at 1 Sunah and 1 Heijah (see map, OGJ, July 15, p. 34).
CanOxy's 1991 exploration program has drilled nine wells, five of them successful. Three rigs now in service will drill the four wells remaining in the 1991 program. All the remaining wells will explore undrilled structures.
A service rig will continue to conduct production tests of the successful wells.
Three seismic crews are working on a 2,000 km survey.
Members of the CanOxy group are Canadian Oxy Offshore International Ltd., Occidental International Exploration & Production Co., Consolidated Contractors International Co. SAL, and Pecten Yemen Co.
