UNION PACIFIC STEPS UP CHALK PRODUCTION
Union Pacific Resources Co. (UPRC), Fort Worth, gauged a company record Cretaceous Austin chalk net production of more than 51,000 b/d of oil equivalent (BDOE) as of Nov. 18, mainly from horizontal wells.
Present income from the Central Texas trend is $1.065 million/day, mainly from crude oil sales of $500,000/day. Crude oil pipeline operations and sales of gas and natural gas liquids account for the rest.
Current company production is up from 15,000 BDOE from the chalk at yearend 1990.
UPRC, which is spudding a well in the play every 36-48 hr, controls more than 450,000 net acres in the Austin chalk trend. One of the most active operators in the trend, the company has 198 horizontal wells on production.
UPRC has 24 rigs at work in the chalk, 22 of which are on wells it operates.
The company plans to maintain that level through 1992.
The company has 450,000 acres under lease, compared with 225,000 acres at yearend 1990.
In the eastern trend area, which includes greater Giddings field, UPRC has in creased its leasehold by more than 123,000 net acres.
Several newly formed joint ventures with 83,000 gross acres - 40,000 acres net for UPRC - contributed to the increase.
Partners include Conoco Inc., Bass Enterprises, Fort Worth, Oryx Energy Co,, Dallas, Coastal Oil Corp., Houston, and MW Petroleum Corp., a subsidiary of Apache Corp., Denver. UPRC will be the operator.
UPRC projects an average 240,000 bbl of oil equivalent (BOE) reserves for a horizontal well, while a vertical chalk well has average reserves of 50,000 BOE.
