Hungary's MOL Rt. has new leadership for its international upstream activities.

MOL Hungarian Oil & Gas Co. announced that Ray Leonard is to lead its international upstream activities. He will serve as key player of the upstream senior management team, reporting to Zoltán Áldott, the head of MOL's exploration and production division.

Leonard has held a variety of senior positions in the oil industry, notably as vice-president of resource acquisitions for Amoco Eurasia and most recently as a senior OAO Yukos executive serving as vice-president, exploration and new ventures in Yukos E&P.

Other moves

Petrolifera Petroleum Ltd., 61% owned by Connacher Oil & Gas Ltd., Calgary, plans to appoint Gary D. Wine as president.

Wine has been a geologist for more than 25 years with an emphasis on Peru and Argentina.

R.A. Gusella, president and CEO of Connacher, will become executive chairman of Petrolifera.

Taylor Energy Co. has named John A. Pope as president.

Pope previously served as chief operating officer and vice-president, operations, for the company.

Pope brings 35 years of experience in engineering and management to his new appointment.

Admiral Bay Resources Inc., Toronto, appointed Connie Knight as vice-president of exploration for Admiral Bay (USA).

Knight, formerly with Amoco Production Co., is a petroleum geologist with more than 27 years' experience.

Admiral Bay operates in Kansas, Utah, and Pennsylvania.

T.J. Morrow, formerly president of Challenger Minerals Inc., has founded and is president of Access Exploration Corp., a newly formed oil and natural gas independent based in Houston.

Occidental Petroleum Corp. has elected Casey Olson an executive vice-president. Olson also holds the position of president, Oxy Oil & Gas, Eastern Hemisphere. In addition, he has management responsibility for Oxy's worldwide exploration and international business development efforts.

Since joining Oxy in 1997 as senior vice-president, acquisitions and divestitures, in the company's oil and gas segment, Olson has held a number of increasingly responsible positions, including a recent assignment as president of Occidental Development Co.

Prior to joining Oxy, Olson was a managing director for CIBC Wood Gundy Securities Corp. Prior to that, he served as a vice-president for Hunt Oil Co.
