Partners developing Britannia gas/condensate field off the U.K. have achieved the first major construction milestone in the project. The main deck, production deck, and weather deck last month were stacked during a 4 day effort at a fabrication yard at Teesside, U.K. The three decks, with combined weight of about 2,800 metric tons, form the core of what the partners believe is the biggest integrated deck built to date. Operatorship of Britannia is shared between Conoco (U.K.) Ltd. and Chevron U.K. Ltd. The field is the biggest undeveloped gas discovery on the U.K. continental shelf, with reserves estimated at 3 tcf of gas and 145 million bbl of condensate and natural gas liquids. Production is scheduled to begin about yearend 1998. Depicted is the production deck being placed above the main deck. Photo courtesy Conoco.
