Mobil Oil Co. Ltd. has begun a 5 million ($7.5 million) construction program at its Scottish Area Gas Evacuation (SAGE) system terminal at St. Fergus, Scotland, to prepare for first gas shipments from Brae field.

One treatment train is already in operation, preparing about 400 MMcfd of gas from Mobil's North Sea Beryl field for sale to British Gas plc.

Contractor OGC International plc, Aberdeen, began construction of a second train in June, involving fabrication of piping and interconnection of preassembled units. This will bring total SAGE terminal capacity to 1.15 bcfd by yearend.

Gas from Brae's three oil fields is reinjected at present by operator Marathon Oil U.K. Ltd to maintain reservoir pressure. Development of East Brae gas/condensate field by Marathon will enable first export of Brae field gas.

East Brae holds reserves estimated at 300 million bbl of liquids and 1.5 tcf of gas. Production is expected in December 1993. Export facilities for the Brae complex gas will be installed on the East Brae platform.

Gas sales from North, South, Central, and East Brae will start in October 1994 at a rate of 270 MMcfd, rising to 350 MMcfd in 2003. After processing at the SAGE terminal at St. Fergus, the gas will enter the British Gas grid.
