Twenty nine organizations have submitted computer technology to Petrotechnical Open Software Corp., Houston, for an application programming interface to deliver data management services.

The 29 entities included exploration and production vendors, computer and software vendors, and oil and gas companies.

More than 60 organizations responded to a previous POSC request for comments expressing needs for technical information management. They urged POSC to proceed as planned but with a more manageable, phased implementation.

That led to the request for technology to focus on requirements for the application programming interface in two key areas, data store and data exchange.

POSC is dedicated to providing the international exploration/production industry with a software integration platform (SIP). The SIP is a set of open interface specifications being developed to provide freedom to mix and match applications and hardware and system software while enabling data and user portability.

The POSC data store and data exchange specification is scheduled for delivery to the public in 1993. By developing the SIP and a comprehensive branding program, POSC will help establish confidence between buyers and vendors, said Dan Turner, president and chief executive officer of POSC.

Companies that submitted technology were ARCO Oil & Gas Co., Chevron E&P Services Co., Digital Equipment Corp., Dwight's Energydata Inc., Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc., Geotech Computer Systems Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., HyperDesk Corp., and IBM Corp.

Also Information Builders Inc., InSync Software Corp., Landmark Graphics Corp., NCR Corp., Mobil E&P Services Inc., MTT Ltd., Object Design, Object Management Group, Objectivity Inc., and Oilware Inc.

Also Oracle Corp., Petrovision Inc., Schlumberger Well Services, Science Applications International Corp., Sierra Geophysics Inc., UniISQL Inc., Texaco Inc., Tigress Ltd., and XYZTEK Corp.
