ALBANIA TO OPEN ONSHORE ACREAGE
Albania will throw open its onshore basins to exploration and development by foreign operators.
The area available for licensing consists of 4,400 sq km divided into 21 blocks. Deadline for submission of bids is June 30, 1993, with blocks to be awarded the following Sept. 30.
Details of the country's first onshore licensing round will be displayed by state owned Albpetrol during the Society of Exploration Geophysicists annual meeting Oct. 25-29 in New Orleans, to be followed by seminars in Houston and London.
Exploration on Albania's offshore acreage started in 1991. Blocks have been licensed to units of Chevron Corp., Occidental Petroleum Corp., Hamilton Bros., Agip SpA, and Deminex-OMV.
Albania has produced oil and gas onshore for 50 years. Current oil production is about 30,000 b/d.
