Production has been reestablished in a former one well Nevada field at a new completion that flowed clean oil through tubing natural at a rate of 225 bbl/hr on a short initial test.

Balcron Oil Co., Billings, Mont., a division of Equitable Resources Energy Co., Pittsburgh, was to start sustained tests last week at the 23-17 Bacon Flat, in 17-7n-57e, in Railroad Valley of Nye County.

A company official expects the well to be capable of sustained production of about 1,000 b/d of oil but believes output may be limited by marketing constraints.

Balcron said the well topped Paleozoics at 5,156 ft.

The operator set 7 in. casing at 5,164 ft and drilled open hole to 5,240 ft.

Crews pulled nine swab runs before the well kicked off and flowed, filling a 500 bbl frac tank in 2 hr, 10 min through 2 7/8 in. tubing with 60 psi flow pressure from Devonian Guilmette open hole. Surface shut-in pressure was 340 psi.

The well is expected to flow indefinitely, Balcron said. The oil is an estimated 26 gravity and is not the high pour point variety. Formation temperature at TD is 220 F.

BACON FLAT AREA

The well is a north offset and believed to be about 170 ft structurally high to the Apache Corp. 1 Bacon Flat, which produced 314,640 bbl of oil from Guilmette during 1981-88. Balcron says its well is producing from the same reservoir as the Apache well, which is shut in.

Bacon Flat field is about 1 mile northwest of and on a separate fault block from Grant Canyon field, which has produced more than 16 million bbl of oil since 1984 through five wells at about 3,800 ft.

All oil produced in the area is trucked, most going to Salt Lake City 380 miles distant.

Balcron was unsuccessful at a previous offset well south of the discovery in the heavily faulted area. The company's two locations were positioned based on geologic and geophysical interpretation . No further drilling plans have been formulated.

Balcron holds a 38.45% interest in the well before payout. J.R. Bacon Drilling Co., Oilmont, Mont., and Cenex Inc., Billings, each hold 25% interests.
