Other personnel news

In other industry personnel moves, Patrick D. Daniel will replace Brian F. MacNeill on Jan. 1, 2001, as president and CEO of Enbridge Inc., Calgary, Canada's largest oil pipeline company.

Daniel, a professional engineer, will become president and CEO Sept. 1 and will then gradually assume the role of CEO from MacNeill, who has headed Enbridge for 10 years and was named as chairman of Petro-Canada, Calgary, in May (OGJ, June 5, 2000, p. 26).

MacNeill, said the switch is a millennium change and that it's time to move on after 10 years.

Both Daniel and MacNeill worked at Home Oil in the 1980s and then joined Enbridge-formerly known as Interprovincial Pipeline Inc. and later IPL-when Home Oil was acquired in 1986.

During his tenure at Enbridge, MacNeill managed three major expansions of the system, which is now the world's longest crude oil pipeline.

The company also moved into natural gas distribution, acquired an interest in the Alliance natural gas pipeline project, and invested in oil field projects in Colombia and Venezuela.

MacNeill will remain on the board of Enbridge.

The change at the top will also trigger seven other personnel changes at the senior management level in Enbridge.

David B. Roberts has been appointed senior vice-president, engineering, of New Dominion LLC, Stillwater, Okla. He will provide technical leadership within the engineering domain as well as directing and developing the drilling, equipping, completion, and stimulation of wells drilled by the company. Prior to joining New Dominion, Roberts was a production-engineering manager with Apache Corp. in Tulsa.

Julie Thompson has been promoted to vice-president of research and development at Houston-based specialty hydrocarbons manufacturer and marketer Penreco. Thompson, in her new assignment, will be responsible for the R&D function at Penreco's technology center in The Woodlands, Tex. She will also head up all product management and technical support functions for the company, which is a partnership of Pennzoil-Quaker State Co. and Conoco Inc. Before being promoted, Thompson was marketing manager for Penreco's line of gelled hydrocarbon products. Thompson joined Pennzoil as a chemist in 1979 in Shreveport, La., and has held positions within both Pennzoil and Penreco.
