Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America's Arkoma basin pipeline construction project in Southeast Oklahoma is about 50% complete.
NGPL's $51 million project, which got under way in mid-September, includes construction of a 4,000 hp compressor station in northern Atoka County and 105 miles of 24 in. line. The route extends from Amoco Production Co.'s Red Oak gas gathering system in Latimer County to NGPL's A/G line in Bryan County, near Bennington.
Clearing of right-of-way began Sept. 7, followed by ditching and stringing of 75 ft lengths of pipe. Welders began connecting the sections early in October.
Work is expected to be finished by mid-December, said Ronald Brown, manager of NGPL construction and contracts.
By the time the project is complete, construction crews will have bored under 63 state and county roads, one turnpike, and two railroads. They also will have crossed four major streams.
General contractor is H.B. Zachry, San Antonio.
Plans call for the compressor station, about 30 miles south of McAlester, to start up by late April 1991. The Arkoma line will carry about 150 MMcfd until then.
Concrete contractor at the station site is Energy Construction Specialists, Pauls Valley, Okla. A contract for the mechanical work was to be let by the end of November.
NGPL is the interstate transmission unit of MidCon Corp., Lombard, Ill., in turn a unit of Occidental Petroleum Corp., Los Angeles.
