TotalEnergies SE renewed for a 20-year term the production license of operated block OML130 offshore Nigeria.

The license, 150 km off the coast, contains Akpo and Egina fields, which came into production in 2009 and 2018, respectively. Akpo is in 1,100-1,700 m of water, 200 km off Port Harcourt. Egina oil field lies in 1,600 m of water 20 km southwest of Akpo. In 2022, production from the fields was 282,000 boe/d. Nearly 30% contained gas was sent to the Nigeria LNG plant.

The license also contains a short-cycle project, Akpo West, which is expected to begin production by end-2023. Development of the Preowei discovery, also in the block, is planned as a tie-back to the Egina FPSO. The 20-year license extension will enable the company to move forward with FEED studies, TotalEnergies said.

TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Ltd. is operator at OML130 (24%) with partners CNOOC Ltd. (45%), South Atlantic Petroleum Ltd. (15%), Prime 130 UA (16%), and the Nigerian National Petroleum Co. Ltd. as concessionaire of the production sharing contract.
