BHP lets FEED contract for Trion FPU

BHP has let a contract to McDermott International Ltd. for front-end engineering design of a semi-submersible floating production unit for the Trion project in the Gulf of Mexico.

BHP Petróleo Operaciones de México S. De R.L. De C.V. (BHP) has let a contract to McDermott International Ltd. for front-end engineering design (FEED) of a semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU) for the Trion project in the Gulf of Mexico.

The FPU will be designed for a water depth of 8,200 ft (2,500 m) for station in Trion field, about 19 miles (30 km) south of the US-Mexico border and about 112 miles (180 km) off the Mexican coastline.

Trion field encompasses an area of 1,285 sq km in the Perdido belt at a water depth of 2,570 m with an estimated 222 MMboe net 2C resources.  Acquired in 2016 in Mexico’s first-ever deepwater bid round, BHP is operator with 60% interest. Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) holds 40% interest.
