Woodside Energy contractor HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a contract with Wood Group for detailed engineering of the Trion Floating Production Unit (FPU) topsides for the greenfield development in Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Woodside made the decision in June 2023 to proceed with the Trion resource development, which lies 19 miles south of the US-Mexico border and 112 miles from the Mexican coastline in 8,200 ft of water (OGJ Online, June 23, 2023). First oil is targeted for 2028.

When complete, Trion will have a production capacity of 100,000 b/d and connect to a 950,000 bbl capacity floating storage and offloading vessel.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider for the FPU and Wood's award follows the delivery of the Trion pre-FEED and FEED design.

Wood's teams in Houston, Tex., (US) and Bogota (Colombia), will deliver the detailed topsides design work for the FPU project over the next 3 years.
