bp, SOCAR partner for Caspian basin research

bp and SOCAR signed an agreement to cooperate on seismic and well research in the Caspian basin.

SOCAR will supply bp with 2D seismic lines, well data, and geological samples, while bp will carry out the seismic processing and laboratory analysis of the samples. The aim is to create a regional pseudo-3D seismic volume by integrating with existing seismic data collected over various periods.

The new pseudo 3D seismic volume is expected to enhance regional geological interpretation by reducing dependence on individual 2D seismic lines as well as support basin-wide 3D mapping, improving insight into exploration potential, and reducing risks for future exploration projects across the basin, the companies said. 

This will be the first project of its kind in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.
