Strike Energy confirms gas discovery in Western Australia's Perth basin
Key Highlights
- Strike Energy discovered a new conventional gas accumulation in Walyering West, Perth basin.
- Depending upon testing, the well will be tied into the Walyering gas processing plant.
Strike Energy Ltd. said it has confirmed the discovery of a new conventional gas accumulation in the Walyering West prospect in lease L23 in Western Australia's Perth basin following drilling and evaluation of the Walyering West-1 well (WAW-1).
WAW-1 was drilled to 3,650 m TD to test Jurassic aged conventional sandstone reservoirs within a fault bound, four-way dip closure. The well confirmed gas-bearing zones across multiple Cattamarra intervals.
Mud logs, logging while drilling (LWD) logs and pressures were used to evaluate the conventional sandstone intervals in the targeted Jurassic Cattamarra Coal Measures.
About 27.5 m of conventional pay is interpreted in the A Sub1 sand, C1 sand, and D1-4 sands, which are analogous to the existing Walyering gas field.
Strike was unable to complete wireline fluid sampling due to wellbore conditions, but fluid samples will be taken during flow testing.
The drill rig is currently preparing to run 7-in. casing and cement in place. Cased hole logging and completion operations will be undertaken to enable production testing this financial year.
Results from WAW-1 will also inform future drilling and development planning in the near-field area, the operator said.
Contingent on production testing, WAW-1 will be tied into the Walyering gas processing plant about 3 km away.
Strike is operator of L23 and holds 100% interest.
