Strike Energy begins drilling Walyering West-1 in Western Australia

The well is targeting Jurassic sandstone reservoirs in a fault-bound structure. As a near-field prospect, the drilling program seeks to unlock additional value from the producing Walyering asset.

Strike Energy Ltd. has started drilling operations at Walyering West-1 (WAW-1) in the Perth basin of Western Australia in production license (PL) L23.

Evaluation, including wireline logging and potential production testing, will be undertaken as part of the program, the company said in a release last week.

WAW-1, which was spudded Apr. 15, lies about 3 km from existing production infrastructure at the Walyering gas plant. Drilling, through the Ensign 970 rig, is targeting sandstone reservoirs within the Cattamarra Coal Measures (CCM) formation to evaluate gas and condensate potential within the proven Walyering hydrocarbon system, the operator said.

Drilling operations are expected to take about 20 days, with preliminary results expected in early May.

WAW-1 is targeting Jurassic-aged conventional sandstone reservoirs within a fault bound, 4-way dip closure in the license.

Strike Energy is operator with 100% equity interest.
