Petrobras makes gas discovery offshore Colombia

The Copoazu-1 well, drilled about 36 km from Colombia's coast, confirmed the presence of gas in multiple intervals, with further laboratory analyses planned to characterize the resource fully.

Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) made a deepwater gas discovery in the Copoazu-1 exploratory well in Block GUA-OFF-O offshore Colombia.

The well lies about 36 km from the coast in 964 m of water and 8 km from the Sirius-1 (discovery) and Sirius-2 (appraisal) wells.

Copoazu 1 spudded on Nov. 11, 2025. The gas-bearing intervals were identified through electric logs and fluid sampling, confirming the presence of gas in an additional objective beyond the main objective. The gas-bearing intervals will be further characterized by laboratory analyses.

Petrobras subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro BV – Colombia Branch (PIB-COL), is operator of the consortium (44.44%) with partners Ecopetrol SA (55.56%).
