Prime Energy finds untapped gas reservoir offshore Philippines

The new find confirmed 98 bcf of natural gas and associated condensate. It is the first natural gas discovery in Philippine territory in over a decade.

Prime Energy Resources Development BV discovered gas at the Malampaya East-1 reservoir in Service Contract No. 38 offshore Philippines, said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in a Jan. 19 release.

Malampaya East-1 is a newly discovered, previously untapped reservoir about 5 km east of the existing Malampaya field. The new find confirmed 98 bcf of natural gas and associated condensate. It is the first natural gas discovery in Philippine territory in over a decade.

Based on initial testing, the well flowed at 60 MMcfd.

The next phase of the Malampaya 4 drilling campaign involves the completion and testing of Camago-3, followed by the drilling of Bagong Pag-asa exploration well.

Prime Energy Resources Development BV is operator of SC 38 Consortium with partners UC38, PNOC Exploration Corp., and Prime Oil and Gas Inc.
