CNOOC discovers hydrocarbons offshore China in Beibu Gulf basin

CNOOC Ltd. discovered hydrocarbons in Weizhou 10-5 South oil and gas field in Beibu Gulf basin in the South China Sea.

Exploration well WZ10-5S-2d was drilled to 3,362 TD in 37 m of water and encountered a 211 m oil and gas pay zone. Test results indicate that the well produces 165,000 cu ft of natural gas and 400 b/d of crude. It marks a significant exploration in the metamorphic sandstone and slate buried hills within the basin.
