The company says the Keathley Canyon Block 10 Well No. 1 encountered oil pay in the Lower Tertiary Wilcox Sands about 180 miles offshore Louisiana in about 4,000 ft of water at a total depth of 30,173 ft.
Chevron began drilling the Guadalupe well in June. More tests are being conducted on the discovery well and additional appraisal wells will be drilled to determine the extent of the resource.
Additional gulf production from Chevron’s Tubular Bells and Jack-St. Malo projects is expected come on stream by yearend. In 2013, Chevron’s production from the gulf averaged 143,000 b/d of crude oil, 347 Mcfd of natural gas, and 15,000 b/d of natural gas liquids.
Chevron has a 42.5% working interest and is the operator of the Guadalupe discovery well. Partners include BP Exploration & Production Inc. 42.5% and Venari Resources LLC 15%.
