Chevron adds 20th discovery offshore Western Australia

Chevron Corp. said its Kentish Knock South-1 exploratory well in the Exmouth Plateau area of the Carnarvon basin offshore Western Australia encountered 246 ft of net gas pay in Triassic Upper Mungaroo sands.

Drilled to 10,056 ft in 3,832 ft of water on WA-365-P 173 miles north of Exmouth, the well is the company’s 20^th discovery offshore Western Australia since mid-2009.

Chevron said the discovery expands the company’s Australian LNG position but did not provide an estimate of the discovery’s size.

Chevron Australia as operator and Shell Development (Australia) each holds 50% interest in WA-365-P.
