Petrobras encountered oil in a pioneer Uirapuru block well within the Santos basin pre-salt 200 km off the Santos coast at water depth of 1,995 m. The discovery is in porous reservoirs in the Araucária exploratory prospect. Well data will be analyzed to better target exploration in the area and assess discovery potential, the company said.

The Uirapuru block, acquired in the 4th production sharing round in June 2018, is in the pre-salt Polygon under a production sharing regime with Pré-sal Petróleo SA as manager. Petrobras is operator of the block and holds a 30% stake in partnership with ExxonMobil (28%), Equinor (28%), and Petrogal (14%).
