Algeria awards five licenses in 2024 bid round

Algeria’s National Agency for the Valorisation of Hydrocarbon Resources awarded the licenses following bids received for the round, the first call for tender conducted under the hydrocarbon law No.19-13.

Algeria’s National Agency for the Valorisation of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) awarded five licenses following bids received for the Algeria Bid Round 2024, the first call for tender conducted under the hydrocarbon law No.19-13.

The bid found committee received seven bids for six licenses put out to tender. Five licenses were awarded.

TotalEnergies, jointly with QatarEnergy, was awarded the Ahara license. The license covers about 14,900 sq km at the intersection of the Berkine and Illizi basins, TotalEnergies said in a release June 17.

TotalEnergies will serve as operator during the license’s exploration and appraisal phases with a 24.5% effective interest, the same share as QatarEnergy (24.5%). Sonatrach will retain 51%, in accordance with Algerian law.

Other awards were listed by ALNAFT as follows:

  • A consortium of Eni and PTTEP was awarded the Reggane II license in the Reggane basin.
  • Zhongman Petroleum and Natural Gas Group Corp. Ltd. (ZPEC) was awarded Zerafa II in the Ahnet Gourana basin.
  • A consortium of Zangas and Filada was awarded the Toual II license in the Berkine basin.
  • Sinopec was awarded the Guern El Guessa II license in the Gourana Timimoun basin.
