HOUSTON, July 6 -- Perenco UK Ltd. has completed a lateral appraisal well in Davy East gas field on Block 53/5b of the southern UK North Sea.

It completed the 53/5b-7 well subsea in a 2,400 ft section of Permian Leman sandstone and installed a sand-control system.

On test, the well flowed at a restricted rate of 48 MMscfd of gas. Reservoir data from the well warrant immediate development of the field, Perenco said.

Davy East gas is expected to come on line later this year. The field lies 5 km southeast of Perenco's Davy platform, which has an export route to Indefatigable gas field and the Bacton Terminal operated by Perenco. Perenco plans to develop Davy East via a 6-in. pipeline to Davy.

The company said there are other satellite appraisal and development opportunities near the Davy hub.

Perenco owns a 60% interest in Davy East, and Centrica Resources Ltd. owns 40%.
