One offshore Senegal 3D seismic survey complete, another begins
Petrosen, the national oil company of Senegal, is again partnering with GeoPartners and TGS for seismic work offshore Senegal. Work has begun to acquire 2,024 sq kms of 3D seismic data in northern Senegal. The 3D survey, OUP-NORD-20, will cover a block that is currently open and included in the present license round launched in Dakar in January (OGJ Online, Jan. 30, 2020).
The data being acquired will illuminate deepwater fan systems that have already proved effective inboard of the 3D with the Yakaar and Tortue discoveries and will be key to supporting the licensing round across the acreage, TGS said.
The partnership recently concluded survey SN-UDO-19, in northern Senegal, an extension to the completed SS-UDO-19 3D acquisition in southern Senegal. The survey has been designed to illuminate plays in ultra-deep plays that could be analogous to those housing Sangomar field, the GTA complex, and Yakaar discoveries. The palaeo shelf-edge carbonate trend extends south of Sangomar field with a large prospective area outboard of the north and south. Fast track data will be available during the second quarter of 2020. The full dataset will be available by Q4 2020.
