Cairn Energy PLC of Edinburgh said it plans to start drilling offshore Mexico in this year’s third quarter on Block 9, where it holds 50% interest and is the operator.

Simon Thomson, Cairn chief executive officer, noted that recent acreage additions make him optimistic about high potential exploration prospects.

Cairn also has two non-operated wells on Block 7 where it holds 30% interest and where Eni SPA is the operator. Cairn also holds 15% interest in Block 10.
