Petro-Victory Energy encounters hydrocarbons at SJ-12 well, Brazil
Petro-Victory Energy Corp. encountered hydrocarbons at its SJ‑12 well in São João field in Brazil’s Barreirinhas basin, marking what the company said is a development milestone for the asset.
The 7‑SJ‑12DA‑MA well was drilled to a total measured depth of 3,180 m, intersecting the Barro Duro‑Tutoia and Bom Gosto‑Arpoador formations. Wireline logs, petrophysical analysis, and mud‑logging data identified about 280 m of gross hydrocarbon‑bearing interval across five prospective zones in the Bom Gosto‑Arpoador formation.
Petro Victory identified five net pay zones forming a stacked gas reservoir system, equating to 125 m of net reservoir and 72 m of net hydrocarbon pay. An additional 45 m of hydrocarbon shows, interpreted as oil, were identified in the shallower Barro Duro‑Tutoia formation and within Bom Gosto‑Arpoador.
Open‑hole logging included resistivity, density, neutron, and sonic tools, along with RDT formation testing and mechanical sidewall cores. Twenty‑one formation pre‑tests confirmed pressure continuity and favorable mobility. Gas samples recovered at measured depths of 2,682 m and 2,975 m exhibited low density under downhole conditions, consistent with gas‑phase hydrocarbons.
“The results confirm a robust petroleum system with clear stacked pay potential and validate our subsurface model,” said chief executive officer Richard F. Gonzalez. Additional testing is planned.
