Petronas, JERA to explore CCS opportunities between Japan and Malaysia

Petronas has signed a joint study agreement with JERA to evaluate CCS opportunities.

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), through its subsidiary Petronas CCS Solutions Sdn Bhd, has signed a joint study agreement with JERA Co. Inc. to evaluate carbon capture and storage (CCS) opportunies.

Under the JSA, the companies will jointly examine feasibility across the entire CCS value chain, including the separation and capture of CO2 emitted by JERA in Japan, transportation methods and shipping/receiving conditions for cross-border CO2 transport, and storage of CO2 in Malaysia gas fields, the companies said in separate releases Apr. 2.
