Imperial Energy Corp. PLC, a subsidiary of ONGC Videsh Ltd., has drilled two horizontal wells in the Naunak formation of Snezhnoye field in the Tomsk region of Siberia.

Each well had a horizontal length of 1,500 m. Oil production is expected to reach 1,200 b/d.

Imperial brought in Liberty Resources LLC, Denver, as technology partner for multistage fracturing after single-stage fracturing in the low-permeability reservoir yielded a maximum of 150 b/d with a “very fast” decline rate.

ONGC Videsh said about 80% of Imperial’s reserves are locked up in tight reservoirs with very low permeability and are difficult to exploit profitably with conventional methods (OGJ Online, Jan. 19, 2007).
