Eni SPA started gas production from Merakes East field in Kutei basin, offshore Indonesia in 1,600 m of water about 10 km east of Merakes field.

The field lies in the East Sepinggan block and will contribute up to 100 MMscfd of gas or about 18,000 boe/d. Merakes East is tied back via a 50 km subsea connection to the Jangkrik floating production unit (FPU). The gas will be transferred via pipe network after initial processing onboard the FPU to supply the internal market and the Bontang liquefaction plant, which supplies LNG for both the internal market and for export.

Eni is operator at Merakes East (85%).
