Husky sanctions heavy oil thermal project in Saskatchewan
Husky Energy Inc., Calgary, has sanctioned a 10,000-b/d heavy oil thermal project in Saskatchewan for startup in late 2018.
Construction resources are expected to be directed to Rush Lake 2 as work at three other thermal projects is completed. Edam East, Vawn, and Edam West are scheduled for startup in 2016.
The 10,000-b/d Rush Lake 1 began production earlier this year and exceeded nameplate capacity a month after startup (OGJ Online, Sept. 24, 2015).
The company’s heavy oil thermal production is expected to reach about 80,000 b/d by yearend 2016. In 2010, it was about 18,000 b/d.
