Hurricane Michael prompts evacuations

Operators had moved workers off 10 production platforms as of midday Oct. 8 as Hurricane Michael entered the Gulf of Mexico, reported the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. No fixed drilling rigs had been evacuated. Five dynamically position rigs had been moved out of the storm’s path.

Operators had moved workers off 10 production platforms as of midday Oct. 8 as Hurricane Michael entered the Gulf of Mexico, reported the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

No fixed drilling rigs had been evacuated.

Five dynamically position rigs had been moved out of the storm’s path.

Production shut in by the hurricane precautions was estimated at 324,190 b/d of oil, 19.07% of the Gulf of Mexico total, and 283.88 MMcfd of natural gas, 11.09% of total, BSEE said.

The Hurricane was expected to make landfall on the Florida Panhandle on Oct. 10.
