Woodside Petroleum Ltd., Perth, has let a contract to oil field services group TechnipFMC for the water-treatment upgrade of the offshore Pluto Alpha gas production platform in the Western Australian Carnarvon basin.

The contract entails the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of the Pluto water-handling module.

Technip said this module will consist of facilities for water separation and treatment as well as upgraded power generation units.

Pluto platform is located about 190 km off Karratha. The produced gas from the facility is sent via the existing subsea pipeline to the Pluto LNG plant on the Burrup Peninsula.

Woodside is operator and 90% interest holder in Pluto, with Japanese companies Kansai Electric and Tokyo Gas holding 5% interest each.
