Aker BP hits 2023 production target despite Alvheim downtime, guides 2024 lower

Feb. 8, 2024
Aker BP reached its full-year 2023 production target despite impacts from an unplanned shutdown in the North Sea in the year’s third quarter.

Aker BP ASA produced 444,000 boe/d in fourth-quarter 2023 and 457,000 boe/d for full year 2023, in line with guidance despite impacts from an unplanned shutdown at Alvheim field in the North Sea in the year’s third quarter. Guidance for 2024 is 8% lower at the midpont lower at 410,000-440,000 boe/d.

The operator restored production at Alvheim in December 2023 following a deferral of about 1 month due to technical issues (OGJ Online, Dec. 18, 2023).

The company said all field development projects are progressing as planned and within budget, with fabrication activities under way at multiple locations.  The year’s capex budget is $5 billion with $500 million allocated for exploration and abandonment spend of about $250 million.

Aker BP had net profit of $164 million. Impairments amounted to $415 million, related to technical goodwill at Edvard Grieg and Ivar Aasen ($229 million) and Valhall ($183 million).
