Canada rig count down double-digits

A total of 135 rigs were running in Canada for the week ended Apr. 10, which is down 10 from last week and down 3 from the 138 rigs working this time a year ago.

The rig count in Canada fell by 10 units this week, according to Baker Hughes data. The drop is one fewer than the 11 taken offline last week.

A total of 135 rigs were running in Canada for the week ended Apr. 10, which is down 3 from the 138 rigs working this time a year ago. There were 5 fewer oil-directed rigs running in Canada with a total of 83. Two fewer rigs were gas-directed, with a total of 52.

In the US, a 3-rig drop brought the rig count to 545 for the week. The count is down 38 from the 583 rigs running in the US this time last year.

US oil-directed rigs were unchanged at 411 working this week, but down 61 from the 472 working this time a year ago. Gas-directed rigs decreased by 3 units to 127. A year ago, 105 units were drilling for gas in the US.

The number of rigs drilling on land in the US was down 6 units. The count stands at 530 units working for the week. Horizontal rigs decreased by 2 units to 483. Vertical rigs decreased by 4 to reach 12 for the week. Five additional rigs were drilling directionally, bringing the count to 50.

Louisiana saw the largest increase in rigs. With a 3-unit gain, the count stands at 43 for the week. Wyoming added a rig to end the week with 17 rigs running.

New Mexico and Oklahoma each dropped 2 units to end the week with respective counts of 101 and 42. Texas, North Dakota, and Utah each dropped a single unit to respective counts of 232, 26, and 13.

Offshore units increased by 3, leaving 14 rigs working this week.
