DNO ASA is restarting drilling operations in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Drilling at Tawke field following a 2.5-year spending hiatus will begin with the spudding of a new production well targeting the shallow Jeribe reservoir. Two rigs, the DQE-51 and the DNO-owned Sindy have been mobilized to drill eight wells on the license through 2026 as the company targets a 25% increase in gross operated production to 100,000 bo/d.

Despite halting new drilling following the 2023 export pipeline closure and the drop in revenues, DNO is still pumping 80,000 bo/d.

Tawke field predominantly features the Cretaceous Bekhme and Qamchuqa formations, with some contributions from the younger Tertiary Jeribe formation, hydrocarbons from Peshkabir field reside in the Cretaceous Shiranish and also Qamchuqa formations. All these formations are characterized as naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs containing medium gravity crude.

DNO operates the Tawke license containing Tawke and Peshkabir fields with 75% interest. Genel Energy plc holds the remaining 25%.
