Eni Ghana to drill offshore Ghana sidetrack
Eni will drill a sidetrack well in Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block off the west coast of Ghana as the company aims to increase value from the block, ensuring long-term production sustainability, the company said in a release May 29.
Drilling operations of the Sankofa East 1X Side Track 2 by the Deep Value Driller (DVD) drillship have begun about 60 km off Ghana’s western coast.
OCTP is an integrated project for development of oil and natural gas fields in 520-990 m of water. Its Sankofa and Gye Nyame fields are developed with wells and systems on the seabed, connected to the John Agyekum Kufuor floating production and storage unit (FPSO). First gas started in 2018 (OGJ Online, July 6, 2018).
Gas is processed and transported via pipeline to onshore terminals near Sanzule where it is compressed and injected into the Western Corridor Gas Pipeline to be distributed to thermal power plants and industrial customers across the country. Oil is stored in the FPSO and offloaded to tankers for sale in the international market.
Eni has been present in Ghana since 2009 with offshore hydrocarbon exploration and production activities, with an equity production of about 34,000 boe/d.
Eni Ghana is operator at OCTP (44.44%) with partners Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd. (Vitol, 35.6%) and Ghana National Petroleum Corp. (GNPC, 20%).
