Gujarat State Petroleum Corp. Ltd. has spudded the first development well in Deen Dayal West gas-condensate field on the KG-OSN-2001/3 block off eastern India, said Jubilant Energy NV, Amsterdam.

The Deep Sea Driller-1 jackup, located over the DDW wellhead platform in 60 m of water, will batch-drill the initial section of the first four development wells. A more cost-efficient modular rig to be installed by January 2012 is to complete the wells to their target depth and drill the remaining development wells.

The field development plan calls for drilling 11 new wells and recompleting the four existing wells. Seven wells are to be drilled or recompleted by the time gas production begins in 2013, and the rest are to have been drilled by 2017.

GSPC operates the 17 sq km mining lease with 80% participating interest, and Jubilant Energy has 10%.
