Mexico’s Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has let a contract to McDermott International Inc. for installation of the offshore jacket, deck, and piles for the Ayatsil-A drilling platform in Ayatsil field in the Bay of Campeche.

McDermott’s Intermac 600 transportation and launch barge will launch the 8,400-ton jacket, while the Derrick Barge 50 heavy-lift vessel will complete the installation of the jacket, 3,400-ton deck, and other platform components in 400 ft of water. The facility weighs a total of 15,800 tons.

“Our unique ability to mobilize our versatile marine resources including the heavy-lift vessel Derrick Barge 50, capable of lifting surface loads up to 4,400 tons, and the Intermac 600 transportation and launch barge was a critical component of the successful award for this fast-track installation project,” commented Dominic Savarino, McDermott vice-president and general manager, Americas.

The contract follows the delivery of the Ayatsil-B eight-leg jacket and deck by McDermott in July 2014 (OGJ Online, May 24, 2012). Pemex that summer let a contract to GE Oil & Gas for the supply and installation of surface wellheads and trees at Ayatsil field (OGJ Online, June 25, 2014).

Ayatsil field is Pemex’s largest discovery to date and is expected to boost production for the country by 150,000 b/d of oil.
