Pharos Energy PLC started an interim three-well development program in its El Fayum concession in Egypt’s Western Desert after a period of restricted activity in Egypt.
Operations have commenced on the first well using the ECDC-2 drilling rig. The first well is targeting the oil-bearing sandstones of the Abu Roash 'G' and Upper Bahariya formations, in a structurally optimal position within North Silah Deep field.
Drilling operations are expected to take 24 days and the well will be later tested, completed, and brought on production using one of the workover rigs on contract.
Operations for the initial program are expected to finish in February 2022. Two drilling rigs are being tendered to continue the drilling campaign and for a first-half 2022 commencement.
IPR Lake Qarun Petroleum Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of IPR Energy AG, acquired operatorship and 55% working interest in El Fayum after farm-out and sale from Pharos Energy on Sept. 15, 2021. Deal completion is expected in first-quarter 2022 (OGJ Online, Sept. 15, 2021).
