Serinus Energy suspends Sancrai-1 well in Satu Mare concession
Aug. 12, 2021
Serinus Energy PLC will suspend the Sancrai-1 exploration well on the Satu Mare concession in northwestern Romania’s Pannonian basin after testing the Pliocene sand zone.
The well was drilled to 1,600 m, and continuous formation gas shows were recorded over 20 m gross pay over four sand intervals from measured depths of 855-875 m. At this drilling interval the measured total gas ranged from 5.5% to 11.1% with an estimated average porosity between 23% and 27% (OGJ Online, Jul. 15, 2021). Open-hole petrophysical analysis during the drilling operations further confirmed this gas bearing Pliocene sand zone.
Serinus subsequently perforated the well in three zones to test the Pliocene sand zone prior to completion. The test program, however, was unable to record flow of gas in the selected zones.
The company plans further technical studies to better understand the Sancrai structure and evaluate options available given the high total gas readings during drilling.
