Lundin Norway granted license to test Barents Sea prospect

Lundin Norway AS has been granted a drilling permit by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for a wildcat well in production license 609 targeting the Polmak prospect in the Barents Sea.

Well 7221/4-1 will be drilled from the West Bollsta semisubmersible drilling facility 12 km east of the 7220/6-2 discovery (OGJ Online, Nov. 22, 1016).

The area in the license consists of parts of Blocks 7220/11, 7220/12, 7220/9, 7221/4, and 7220/6. This is the 13th well to be drilled in the license.

Lundin Norway is operator of PL609 with a 40% working interest (OGJ Online, May 30, 2016). Partners are Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS and Windershall Dea Norge AS, each with 30% interest.

Lundin’s exploration program for 2020 comprises a total of 10 exploration wells spread across the entire Norwegian shelf, in the Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea, and North Sea, the company said in January. An exploration budget of $225 million has been set for the year.
