Freeport LNG Development LP has selected KBR Inc. as the preferred bidder for the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contract for Train 4 at Freeport LNG's export facility on Quintana Island near Freeport, Tex.

Under the terms of the expected EPCC contract, KBR will provide engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup of a nominal 5 million-tonne/year LNG train and associated gas pretreatment plant for the export of US gas to international markets.

This selection was made following completion of a 9-month front-end engineering and design verification, execution planning and EPC proposal process (OGJ Online, June 30, 2017). Like the first three trains already under construction, Train 4 will use electric motors with variable frequency drive for the cooling and liquefaction compression power and will be constructed next to the first three trains. Train 4 has an expected start date in 2023. In total, the project’s expected export capability is 20 million tpy of LNG.

It is expected that the fixed price EPCC contract will be concluded this quarter and will be followed by a limited notice to proceed period, which will include early engineering and commitment of critical long lead equipment orders. It is expected that full notice to proceed will occur in this year’s second half.
